Secomea Layer 2 Agent
Remote Access solutions typically operate a the IP address level (Layer 3). By default, these solutions block discovery tools that allow Layer 2 connectivity. Secomea has provided a means to these limitations! Enter the “Layer 2 Agent”, a construct that allows Secomea LinkManager sessions to have Layer 2 access to remote networks. Secomea Layer 2 agent seamlessly removes the barrier between your PC and the remote physical Ethernet. This allows maintenance and troubleshooting over remote networks easier.
How do you know if you need a Layer 2 agent?
Here is an example of how it can help you:
Schneider Electric’s SoMachine has similar functionality for discovering devices. Even though the Secomea agents already support remote access to Schneider equipment, invoking the discovery feature of Somachine 4.1 with the standard agent would give the result below:
With the Layer 2 agent, the application and the devices sees each other as if they were located in the very same physical network, connected to the same physical switch. Performing the same action with a Layer 2 agent will allow the devices to be visible and give you the result below:
How do you configure and connect Layer 2 agent?
Simple.
Layer 2 agent can be configured on the SiteManager as shown below:
Then using LinkManager a connection is established to the Layer 2 agent:
